Let's look at "interactive music" having sensors 
following the movements of a person and generating sound:

The problem is that both subsystems 
(sensors/sound + human)  are "speaking" a 
different language. The main reason is that those 
two systems have not semantics or a least don't 
understand each others' semantics. How then, can 
we call that system "interactive". My guess is 
that that's why this kind of music systems have 
always failed being limited only to quite boring performances.
